Burnley Breaks 41 Year Streak At The Expense Of Red Devils

A less than stellar start to the season for Man-U.

Since Burnley was last in England's top division in 1975-76, the club had played United just three times. United had triumphed in each encounter -- all in the League Cup -- by a combined 9-0.

ESPN-SoccerNet stated:

Burnley celebrated a night they will never forget as veteran duo Robbie Blake and Brian Jensen emerged the heroes in a sensational 1-0 victory over Manchester United. Blake's name will go down as the matchwinner, and rightly so for a fine 18th-minute near post volley which flashed past Ben Foster after a sustained period of Clarets pressure.
But Jensen deserved equal billing for a superb penalty save to deny Michael Carrick an equaliser just before half-time.
Jensen then kept his cool during a tense second-half that United dominated, without ever looking likely to deny a team desperately trying to record their first top flight win since 1976.
Owen harshly had a goal ruled out for offside when he appeared to have timed his run onto Patrice Evra's through-ball to perfection before beating Jensen at the second attempt.

Red Devil Rooney Helps Kick Off The Quest For The Fourth Title!

Man-U's season got off on the right "foot" for the opening of the Premiereship season with a 1 nil victory over Birmingham. The quest is officially on for an unprecedented 4th consecutive title.

Fergie, for one, was happy to see of the Blues (click here for Sky Sports article).

"I think we did enough. We had clear possession of the ball, we had some good
opportunities, played some good football at times and, generally, I'm satisfied
with the result."

AlexMcLeish highlighted his thinking of the resemblance of Rooney to the likes of Figo and Zizou on Fox Sports.

"You can do one or two things in terms of the shape of the team but when he
drops into those little pockets, he is hard to pin down."

Sky Sports also reported: "Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been told to stay central and not drift around in search of the ball."

However, Rooney could not resist the temptation to move out to wide areas at
times and assistant manager Mike
Phelan has reminded him he can do more damage from a central position.

ESPN Soccernet reports the brilliant 20 year old mid-fielder, Gabriel Obertan, signing on with the Red Devils is imminent.

"There is a very strong likelihood that the deal will go ahead," Triaud told
L'Equipe. "Manchester United want to sign him and, for our part, we would be
delighted to see Gabriel playing for such a prestigious club. He was awarded the
Most Valuable Player award at last month's Toulon International Youth
Tournament.

Gabi would join Michael Owen and Antonio Valencia as Man-U offseason additions.

As Fox Sports reported:

"Michael Owen admits a move to Manchester United was beyond his 'wildest dreams' but the striker is determined to prove his doubters wrong...There is little financial risk to United, who have signed the player on a free transfer, as Owen can no longer command the £110,000-a-week he was on at Newcastle...It could be argued that, injuries aside, Owen was never likely to regain his best form playing in a Newcastle team which lurched from one crisis to the next on and off the pitch and ultimately resulted in them being relegated last season...With other players to do much of his running and greater creativity around him, Owen has the best environment in which to succeed...And even he - scorer of 40 goals in 89 England internationals - admits he is excited about playing in the same team as the likes of Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Ryan Giggs."

As ESPN Soccernet reports, Owen hopes to leave his injury woes behind and to write a brilliant chapter in his football story as he joins the Red Devils.

"The former Real Madrid forward is believed to have undergone a rigorous assessment on his troublesome knee in London on Thursday before travelling to Manchester on Friday for a more general physical check-up...'Michael is a world class forward with a proven goalscoring record at the highest level and that has never been in question,' said Ferguson, who is a long-time admirer of a player who scored 158 goals in 297 matches for Liverpool and struck 40 times in 89 England internationals."

Sky Sports reports Michael Owen's ambition to not only prove doubters wrong in his quest to find former glory after joining Man-U, but to find his way back on England's national squad as well.

Obviously if I am fit and playing well then I have got a better chance of getting back into the England squad and I am sure my team-mates, with their quality, will help me to do that," he told Sky Sports News. "If I play well then I'd like to think I can force my way back in. There are internationals coming up and I'd be a fool to say I wouldn't want to be a part of it."

Frederico "KIKO" Macheda is off to a nothing short of brilliant start to his English Premiere League career. The 17 year old has amazing scored two beautiful match-clinching goals that suggest the "Young Gun" will be a major weapon for years to come, added to their already impressive arsenal.

Here was the first game-winner in a 3-2 triumph over Aston Villa {click here for highlights} - an important win, getting the Red Devils back to their winning ways after a couple of less than stellar outings.

The second match winner came yesterday in a 2-1 win over Sunderland {Click here for highlights!}.

"Kiko" Macheda will now be counted on to take some pressure off of the usual suspects - Rooney and Ronaldo.
